How long do you think it should take to bust in the top of an empty electric manhole? Vault is about 6-ft x 10-ft and, I'm assuming, probably about 4-in thick.
Contractor is grading/paving around our parking garage. There's an electric manhole lid that is supposed to be adjusted to grade. Contractor says he can't because the concrete underneath is falling apart. We say, "fine, it's abandoned so just bust the top out and fill it with 304". Contractor submits a change order proposal for $12k, part of which is 2 days of a backhoe with a hammer and an operator. I tell Contracting that the contractor is full of crap. They contractor has a Bobcat sitting there on site, they can rent a hammer for that for $116/day and have the top busted up in 4 hours.
