I'm not sure how many of you will know this, but tonight is the last concert of the greatest country singer of all time, King George Strait. My brother and his wife are actually at Cowboy's Stadium tonight for the show, but there's supposed to be more than 100k people there to see the show. I know that country isn't the most popular genre of music, but this is a man that has consistently topped the charts for 30 years and has more number one hits than anyone in history and he did it without changing the type of singer that he is. I grew up with George Strait songs and it's hard to imagine not hearing them anymore, but I'm glad that I did get to see him in concert several times. I can say this, of all the people that I have ever seen live, no one matches the voice that you hear on the radio like Strait. Garth Brooks was interviewed once and was asked why he had such wild and action packed live shows and he said that he couldn't sing anywhere near as good as George Strait, so he had to do something to keep the people entertained. I won't bore you more, but I wanted to offer this thread as a place to put your favorite Strait songs for other folks to hear if you have one. I'll start it off with the song that he always ends his concert with and the one that serves as the inspiration to his final tour's name: This is Where the Cowboy Rides Away.

This is one of the best country songs of all time and surprisingly is not one of Strait's record breaking #1 hits. I still hope that one day I can be in San Antonio and drive up to Amarillo. This will also show how good this guy is live. It's hard to imagine country music without George Strait anymore. I need another beer to celebrate this man!

What do you mean? Country is not the most popular genre? What could be more popular?

I have to admit that I didn't like country music when I was younger. The new country is like the old southern rock. I know George Strait has been around for a long time and is a great performer.

George is the best there is and it saddens me to think that he is no longer going to be producing the hits he has the past 30 years!

This was my mom's favorite movie when I was growing up. And because of that, this is the song that I had played for the mother/son dance at our wedding. :) Great voice indeed.

^I'll admit that George Strait is my man crush! THat's one of his best, but it's hard to pindown a favorite of his. Here's a good one he teamed up with Alan Jackson for:

Never saw straight... But once saw randy Travis and Alan Jackson.. Did straight play like them? Basically sit on a bar stool for 4 hours and play and sing....

George Strait was my first concert ever. He remains on my to-do list. Favorite song? The Fireman. I love the video of him at the AstroDome.

Yea, he pretty much just stands there with his guitar and sings. You don't go to his shows to see a spectacle, you go to hear him sing. Here's a cool write up about the last show. Looks like he set a record for the largest concert in North American history.
