So I got licensed in TX last year. I received a notice a few months ago that I would have to have a background check because of a new law/ordinance that TX has passed. First of all, getting the FAST paperwork filled out was extremely tedious. The websites did not work together well and it was not clear on what to do or how to do it. But I got through. Now I have to get fingerprinted. I talked to 4 different agencies, not counting four of my local police departments, to try to get them this fingerprint card. All of them passed me around to each other until I finally hung up on them. I've called four police departments. The first three have quit providing the service and referred me to the services above. I finally found one that still does it, not 10 minutes from home, but I was almost sure I was about to have to drive 3hrs to get this done. What a joke...

My CCW fingerprints were a pain in the rump. My county courthouse is an hour from my office. So I had to leave work at 3:30 to get to the clerk's office and apply. Clerk said fingerprints were done at the jail nextdoor but I was too late to get them done. I left work by 3pm the following Tuesday, got to the jail and they said they didn't do prints on Tuesday. "The clerk didn't tell you that?" Nope
So it took me a total of 5.5 hours of vacation time and 6 hours of driving to get the application and fingerprints done.
Then the state police supercomputer could not say for sure that I was not a felon so the prints had to be reviewed via manual inspection. That caused the application-to-issuance period (which is 3 months by state law) to take 3 months plus a couple weeks.

I was printed for working at the casino (handling cash) while in college; then again for the CCW permit. More recently for the TWIC ID.
Am thinking about the TSA Pre-check program, but its back to the TWIC office to get printed again since they can't use my TWIC information from September.
Geeze, next time I renew the CCW, its print time again to get the NCIS Exempt sticker. You'd think that they'd share information, but nope. Has to be redone each time.

I got licensed in TX last Decrmber. Didn't have to get finger printed but I think I will have to before my license has to be renewed in Sept.

these immigration laws requiring all this is kind of going off the deep end, not sure why government thinks the best place to look for non-legal cirzens is the professional licensure boards...cause I guess engineers and nurses are where the real crimminals of Immigration are hiding!

In TX, yes. In fact, almost 1 in 3 sets of prints in TX get rejected for some reason or another. When I got my CC, I got a letter on the day before my move to NC that the prints were bad. Drove 2 hours, went back to the place that did my class (they bring a cop in to do the prints), got reprinted, moved, and crossed my fingers. My permit showed up about 2 months later (they were swamped at the time after Hurricane Ike hit).

Yep, cause we were ncis exempt until they took it away from all holders. After a few years, the powers that be started to allow the exemption again; but we have to get our prints taken.

You only need it in CO if you want to carry concealed. Only VT and AK allow concealed carry without a permit (the last I checked that is). If you open carry, then no worries.
It is nice when traveling sometimes for reciprocity. Besides, you look better in the eyes of the law for having one, the local troopers call it a good guy permit.

I had mine in Georgia and it expired before I moved here I should've renewed it but it looks like Colorado makes you give up the whole weekend to get your concealed carry license. Which I think that's fine for regular Joe's but if youve done time in the military and have a clean record They shouldnt .make you go through all that ********

No prints needed in Alabama. I just had to prove I took a safety class and authorize them to check for criminal history

You can't open carry within the City & County of Denver. Everywhere else is pretty much fair game.
Agreed on the hassle for TX licensing. No one in my area (MO) had the cards either.
I finally got them to print cards from a digital scan but I feel really funny about getting digitally signed into a system when I've not even had as much as a speeding ticket.
