I have a mudroom light that has started to flicker. We just got done with some renovations and the light fixture and wiring is new. Once we moved back in, I don't recall it flickering (a few weeks), but last weekend I replace some of the light fixtures in our basement. Some of the wiring in the basement is cloth wrapped and old. From doing some research I understand the flickering can be due to arching and can be dangerous. A couple questions:

1) Could I have jostled the wiring and caused this?

2) How dangerous is this?

3) Is the problem only in the same conduit run that shares the light? Can I just replace any cloth wrapped wiring in that conduit?

4) What are other causes? Can I investigate?

Thanks for any guidance.

I'm assuming the light is incandescent.

If the light is flickering, you have a bad connection somewhere. I would start with the fixture itself and work my way back to the source.

Are there other lights on the same circuit that are not flickering? If so, the bad connection may be in the fixture itself.
