I am trying to switch from consulting and go into industry as an environmental engineer. I have 10 years of experience in consulting. I have worked mainly in remediation although I have experience with permit compliance, litigation support and SPCC preparation. I have applied to posted jobs from pharmaceutical, petroleum and other industries, from the EHS department, but I haven't gotten any responses. I would appreciate if any one could give me some advice on what things to emphasize in my resume or cover letter so that it catches the employer's attention.

Thanks

John

Have you looked into Utilities? Electrical utilities typically look for Enviros, specifically those with coal fired plants.

I considered a switch a while back. Most of what I found was 75% Health and Safety/25% environmental, so it is hard to get with a mainly remediation background. Check out the larger companies because they or more likely separate these functions. I have worked with 2 large oil companies that have internal remediation guys that handle a portfolio of sites.

^^Yeah, but that said, most enviro eng.s working in remediation have had extensive health and safety training. Emphasize that on your resume, and list every possible safety certification you have ever gotten, and maybe that will help get their attention.
