I have a vacation home and I'm not anywhere's near the top 1%. Of course my vacation house is the same house that I frequent while I'm not on vacation.
I have a "vacation" garage that's not attached to my house. Does that count? It has a fridge full of cold beer. Some times a guy just needs to get away... :)

I don't buy the rhetoric on the 1%, but if I did, lots of people have vacation / rental houses that are not anywhere near the top 1% income earners in this country..

it is doable if you budget, our rental home has been sitting empty since mid-summer and we haven't starved yet or been evicted from where we are currently living... although we were fortunate that it occurred right as the two cars and some student loans were paid off, we just funnel the money to a different place now.
