Why can't Rankine theory be used here? It is a clayey material.
In the next problem #85, Rankine theory is used(clayey sand)...I am confused.
Couple of general questions, when given a clayey sand material, as in #85, the solution uses the equations for sand. I'm not sure how to determine if I use the equations for sand, or clay. I appreciate any help on these concepts. Thanks.
