Principal Engineer (Product Safety)
BAE Systems are looking to recruit a Principal Engineer (Product Safety) to be based at our site in Barrow-in-Furness. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work on a highly complex defence programme, designing and building the replacement to the Vanguard Class of nuclear deterrent submarine.
As a Principal Engineer (Product Safety) Vehicle Control KSF, your main responsibilities will involve:
Leading a team of Safety Engineers performing functional analysis related to the Vehicle Control Key Safety Function.
Using techniques such as; Fault Schedules, Scenario modelling, Fault Tree Analysis and Event Tree Analysis.
Planning and managing a programme of work.
Defining and maintaining Safety Case documentation, providing the safety analysis strategy, planning and its integration with the wider engineering programme.
Configuring safety argument and evidence structure including collation and reporting activities.
Playing a key role in the compilation and integration of the of the Whole-Boat Safety Case across Industry Partners, Key Safety Functions and platform design to the satisfaction of both BAE Systems and MoD, as platform technical authority and design authority respectively.
As a Principal Engineer (Product Safety) your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Ideally you will have a good working knowledge and experience in applying functional safety to a complex project.
Good working knowledge of submarine design theory, including structure, hydrodynamic control and buoyancy.
Experience in the operation of submarines and submarine systems are of particular relevance.
Experience of working in a concurrent engineering or systems engineering environment.
Good report writing and authorship skills will be required along with a proficiency in the use of standard Microsoft packages.
The role requires strong leadership and planning skills.
