@squaretaper what kind of trails are you talking about? I don't do too much offroading, but theoretically am better suited to now that I have Marathons!

Just plain road cycling. The American River Bike Trail (aka Jedediah Smith bike trail) runs along the river for >30 miles, completely separate from the vehicle roads. It's safe, scenic, and awesome.

That sounds awesome! But how early do you have to do the ride before the heat of Sacramento becomes unbearable?

7ish is OK. You can peel off and/or make whatever loop you want. You don't have to go for miles and miles if you don't want. Usually when I take friends out we take the light rail to Folsom and ride back into downtown for post ride brews.
