About Our Client


Hanson is the world's leading producer of construction aggregates (crushed rock, sand and gravel) from the land and sea. In the UK, we operate 47 quarries and run the largest fleet of marine aggregate dredgers in Europe.

We supply aggregates for a variety of construction uses including ready-mixed concrete production, pre-cast concrete, brick and block manufacture and asphalt production. We also produce specialist sands for glass making, horticulture, agriculture and leisure.

We are also able to offer an extensive range of specialist aggregate products, including: industrial sands, agricultural lime, SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) aggregates, and sea defence aggregates.

We also sell sand and gravel to other precast and ready-mixed concrete manufacturers and to the general market.


Job Description


As Area Operations Manager you will lead, direct and manage all aggregates operational activities across either the South West, Central or South Wales regions within the Hanson Aggregates Division, and in so doing achieve agreed safety, environmental, financial and operational performance levels. You will constantly seek to improve existing performance levels, and to identify and then pursue opportunities for further business operational efficiencies and growth.

As Area Operations Manager you will have control of a multi-million GBP(£) budget and support both your Area operations team and commercial colleagues in the planning, budgeting and execution of quarry operations and production planning. It is essential that you promote a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with safety & environmental legislation and wider company initiatives.


The Successful Applicant


  • The ideal candidates will be familiar with modern quarrying methods however due consideration will be given to experience in a high volume processing operation.
  • You will have a proven track record of leading multi-disciplined teams to meet the challenging demands of your downstream customer base and major projects.
  • Ideally you will be degree qualified in a relevant subject (Quarrying, Mining, Production engineering or manufacturing systems)
  • You will have extensive lean experience and can demonstrate leading multiple site operations
  • You will have experience in major capital and/or change projects
  • You will drive a culture which ensures occupational health and safety is of the up-most priority
