You can call NCEES or your state board and they will tell you the percentage of the multiple choice questions that are bridge problems.

I had 4 years experience when I started studying for the exam. I studied text books very heavily and also dissected every example problem I could find. I found that I did get a bit distracted when I would over think problems so during the exam I tried to catch myself if I started to read too...

This is state dependent. In Texas, for example, SE is not a recognized credential and therefore shouldn't be used. I would check with your state board.

I took both VERTICAL FORCES and LATERAL FORCES in Austin Texas. There were only two of us who chose BUILDINGS and one person who chose BRIDGES.

I spoke with NCEES before ordering the monster code. The person I spoke to did mention that the next round of exams (I think starting in October 2011) will be using a newer version of AASHTO. For me, this means that not passing is not an option. :) I certainly will not spend another $240...

Another thing that appears to be missing from the solution is the consideration of accidental eccentricity. (0.1 x the wall dimension) I understand that this is in the Column section of the masonry code, but wouldn't it also be applicable to a wall element with axial load?

For combined stresses, MSJC requires that fa (axial compression stress) + fb (flexural compression stress) be less than or equal to Fb= 1/3 f'm. It also requires that fa be less than Fa. What equations for k are you referring to?

I think the problem is over simplified to illustrate the "direction of loading provisions" in ASCE 7 12.5.4. I saw this as a code provision question rather than a structural analysis question. It doesn't make the solution correct, but that was my interpretation. It would be nice if there were...
