    Glad I'm not in Connecticut. . .

Well, I like my little state. Supe, what is O&G - oil and gas? Did not know that was an industry. Manufacturing jobs pay a hell of a lot more than service jobs - this is one of th roots of the high cost of living in CT since the economy, since its founding, is based on manufacturing -...

    Glad I'm not in Connecticut. . .

Oh, I think you are right, there is only one person who works engineering! Getting a license in another state may be the way to do it - great idea! If this goes through, will have to see what MA, RI, and NY fees are and if they have any additional requirements.

    Glad I'm not in Connecticut. . .

Ugh! I hate my state government. I would love the government to be cut, but not this. I, like KB, do not need it for my 9-5 job, kind of just a status thing, but it does help me out with my adjunct position at the local university. It allows me to teach graduate classes in my field, becuase...

A simple way to improve education

The education system is not broken, the parents are. This is why there is a divide in education by social economic status. Having educated parents = not being poor = they enforce education at home because they knw it is worth something. If you are poor, you have more to worry about (eating...

Is the MS even worth it anymore?

I am all for it, though I have one. I went part time once I started working, since work paid for it. Where I work, it is strongly recommended that you participate in the scholar program (getting a higher degree) and is rewarded. If I had to do it all over again though, I would have stayed in...

Anybody got raise this year? Then how much?

I hate to say it, but I actually am enjoying my 5 furlough days! They are taking a little out of each pay check, so it is not a 5 big hits and with the Obama tax cut, I barely notice it!

Anybody got raise this year? Then how much?

So far I have had about a 2% pay cut (from 5 furlough days). Not as bad as some other divisions (some have seen 7 days!). Our raises have been defered from April to October. In October they said theywill evaluate the business climate and see if they will give them. Rumor is we are getting...

Here's a good one for all you engineers

Made in China. Need more be said? It is scary to think that our greed as a society is driving everything to be made in china.

    PAY Cuts!

We haven't officially had a pay cut, but our hours have been reduced for the year. We are getting 5 unpaid furlough days spread out around various holidays. It comes to about a 2% pay cut. Rumors are flying that their may be more days added to the 5, we will see.

Avoid Global Warming - Paint the Roofs and Roads White

Seriously, he actually makes a good point about white roofs, espeacially in commercial buildings, whose HVAC load is mainly cooling. When I replace my driveway, I am going to use concrete, since it will be much cooler than the current black pavement. Ever notice in the winter, it is always...

    ITT Technical Institute? Really?

The school I adjunct at offers a civil engineering tech degree. this is what they say What is not stated, is that while you can take the FE, inorder to take the PE exam, one must show 2x the experience compared to an engineering degree (@ least in CT).

nah - age had nothing to do with it

I personally do not think the penalty for traffic infractions are strict enough. A drivers license is not a right, you must demonstrate the capability and maturity to drive. For example, as a licensed engineer, if I do not follow the law, I will loose my license or have it suspended. Same...

Use of PE in Sig - Part 2 - Exempt Industry

My business card is: C-Dog, P.E. And my e-mail sig is C-Dog, P.E. I am licensed and work in the same state. In exempt industries, if you put the state after the P.E., you will just confuse folks. Heck, the PE confuses some of them.
