    Post Zimmerman trial riots?

What you want and what you're entitled to are two very different things.

    Post Zimmerman trial riots?

Do you know the source of this? Hint: it is NOT in the Constitution. Do you know what is meant by "peer"? Hint: It is NOT someone just like you.

    Post Zimmerman trial riots?

Florida's statute 913.10 "Number of jurors.—Twelve persons shall constitute a jury to try all capital cases, and six persons shall constitute a jury to try all other criminal cases." Rewarding the all women aspect, read...

Washing hands after going to the restroom

My PEness is the cleanest thing in the bathroom... if I can get away with not touching anything else, I just grab a paper towel (to pull the door open) and go.

So how do we get those beautiful little stamps?

Because Mike, VT, and Dex are curmudgeons... look at their combined post count! For 36,000 posts I suppose you can give them a little slack.

    Earthwork Question from Caltrans Workbook

It looks like to me there are some errors in the solution. For example, the elevation at the bottom of the ditch on the right at sta 35+50 isn't 87! And you can easily verity the catch points by using the slope from the lower points - they don't all work.

IRS: We can read emails without warrant

I don't think NSA (or anyone else) can break 256-bit AES at rest, but if they've got access to side-channel attacks they surely can. How would they do that with your e-mail?

    Superelevation

Centrifugal force is not "real", so superelevation certainly can't counterbalance it! That's about all I remember about the difference between centrifugal and centripetal other than it's something to do with the frame of reference. Regardless, you know it's not a), c), or d)... so b) is the...

    Manning Equations

If it takes you four minutes to solve the Manning equation for any of its variables, there's something wrong. What seems to take all that time?

Help with question: An open channel energy loss problem.

I'd use this problem as an opportunity to emphasize the importance of understanding the energy relationships for open channel flow, including the energy grade line and the hyrdaulic grade line.

Help with question: An open channel energy loss problem.

^ There you have it... With the values given, S != n2v2/2.208R4/3. Had they given S=0.0026 or n=0.014, the two methods would give you the same answer. Still, 2.6 is the *WRONG* answer because Manning's equation is empirical, not theoretical. The energy equation must be obeyed!

Basic Math Problem - Need Help

There is no *right* answer... this one has been around the interwebs for quite a while. It doesn't matter what a calculator, Excel, or Wolframalpha gives for the result because each one is based on its own interpretation of the "rules". There's always confusion about the difference between...

Help with question: An open channel energy loss problem.

Off the top of my head... two things come to mind. 1) S=n2v2/2.208R4/3 is just Manning's equation solved in terms of V rather than the normal Q and A. [Mannings in normally used as Q=(1.49/n)A2/3S1/2] 2) Applying the energy equation, with P1=P2, V1=V2, and no pump yields hL=Z1-Z2, which...

    Allowable Soil Bearing Problem Question

Not sure where the hatred for the CERM is coming from... I have never found a better one-stop for everything Civil Engineering. It's far from perfect, but I don't think there's any issue of "trust" because as you note, it's been around for a long time. I also don't think it's fair to consider...

    Six Minute Solutions #14

This looks like a poorly worded problem. You have to interpret what "most resources" means where "resources" is later defined to be "number of people". So which week uses the "most" number of people? And what is a "week"? I like bradlelf's interpretation that "most" means the most number of...
