April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

When I deal with new to me structural PEs, I always look up their license number and when it was first received in their primary state. This is the only way (besides LinkedIn) I can judge how experience someone is if I have not heard about him or her before. well, I can say the same about...

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

Wow! Now all Civil PEs should accept that Structural is the toughest exam :) I don’t know about all folks taking Construction exam, but I’ve noticed that people that usually take this exam do not do engineering computations on daily bases because they work in construction management field. This...

Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam - 3rd Edition (AASHTO 8th Edition) now available

I think some sort of summary of the main AASHTO topics that are typically seen on the exam is definitely needed. That’s where AEI binder is a huge help. It was my main source for at least half of AASHTO problems on the exam. I solved all of aashto problems without a single guess, which is...

Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam - 3rd Edition (AASHTO 8th Edition) now available

I don’t think studying just example problems would be enough for any topic. You study material from some prep course (AEI covered bridges for building people very well). You review AASHTO, tab it, understand how it is structured, and then use these 80 problems to reinforce what you’ve studied. I...

April 2021 SE Exam Results Thread

does anyone know what exactly they do during this 4 day workshop? I would think they should already have all the work checked and now they decided what is IR, U, or A. But that’s just my guess.

Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam - 3rd Edition (AASHTO 8th Edition) now available

I hope I don’t need vertical and I’ll definitely get the lateral book. Btw, thank you for the detailed response to my comments I had for the vertical questions in the previous edition. After going through the material in my class, I still didn’t feel very well prepared for AASHTO problems...

    Design Specifications Updates

I can’t cut a link for a specific PDF page. It is on top of the last page in each PDF. Here is the screenshot with the highlighted title.

    Design Specifications Updates

I shared a link in a post above that will bring you directly to NCEES web page with the links to these PDFs.

    Design Specifications Updates

It’s like an SE exam problem statement, you need to read every single word before making conclusions ;) On the last page of each pdf, they say these references effective beginning the October 2021 examination

    Design Specifications Updates

All codes are updated except ACI318 and special wind and seismic provisions for wood construction. https://ncees.org/engineering/pe-structural/ I gotta start retabing all codes :(

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

OSHA manual is big, but there are only certain sections of OSHA listed as a reference for PE Civil Structural Exam. I made a small binder of copies of these listed sections and it was very thin comparing to the original OSHA manual. I agree, it is not worth covering it in the class. Anyone can...

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

Makes sense, he’s ME himself and probably has a decent course for ME’s. I was pretty satisfied with all PE Civil breadth topics except structural depth. Each subject is taught by a different PE. The structural PE did not teach much in depth wasting lecture time on something like some OSHA topics...

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

Ugh, I hate to hear it from an instructor just trying to sell his product. Btw, I took his PE Structural course. Breadth was ok. Structural depth - not so much. I had to do a lot of self studying with PPI books after his course to feel ready for the exam and pass it later. I am pretty sure I...

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

I don’t even think there is a public record of what discipline your PE is in. In my state, it just says PE (civil) when you look up for someone’s license. So, I don’t think a client can even check what discipline his engineer was licensed in originally. It is all based on ethics.... But, I guess...

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

taking advise, yes. But would you let a GC build a mid rise without structural engineer? Similarly, why would you let WRE PE design a mid rise? I sure respect a structural advise from architects and contractors, but they definitely don’t tell me how to design structures. They deal with...

April 2021 Post Exam Wait Period - Welcome to the Suck

I’m glad to hear WRE gets a little harder. I’ve heard too many times that it is the easiest PE exam for civil engineers. I know people who took this exam just because it is “the easiest one”, they said, even though it is not related to their daily work at all. I feel very upset when someone...

    Post Exam Period

Based on all forum readings, I came to conclusion that you need two 100% completed problems (maybe some minor mistakes not affecting shown methodology are ok) and two problems at least 75% completed to get A-A-IR-IR and be able to pass if AM score is good. But hey, this is my first time and...

Well that was fun... now what?

I took vertical and I think the exam content was very reasonable. I can’t complain about anything other than my own lack of paying attention to the little details and not covering some obvious topics that were not covered in my prep class.

Well that was fun... now what?

Sounds like a perfect test site! About finding plenty of errors in your responses, do you mean your responses on the exam or your comments about the errors you sent after the exam to NCEES? Have anyone had good experience of communicating with NCEES about what you think was an error on the exam?

Well that was fun... now what?

Yes, I quickly measured the table with the scale for sketching before the exam started :) . I need to take it into a consideration next time when I do practice exams at home as it takes a little different way of organizing things around your work station. I did PE on the same site and expected...
