    Response From Employer

On an interesting note, I was told (in not so many words) that I need to help find work for the "less than capable" engineers who "have minimal skills that translate into profit" so we can boost revenue. I offered to have them take on some of my excess work but was told they were not...

You are 100% correct (IMO). Once an EIT always an EIT to your current employer. I see PE's with no real skills other than having passed the PE come in and have certain EIT's do the work for them and pass it off for themselves. I just got my PE in June ( salos have a masters and been working...

    Response From Employer

I've always wondered whether it's better to lay off a few folks and keep the those who remain at the same pay level. On the one hand everyone has a job but everyone is unhappy with the job they have (pay cuts and no pay raises) but on the other hand you can lay off a few and those you keep can...

    Response From Employer

IMHO, everyone should be "thankful for having a job" regardless of an economic downturn or in a booming economy, but being thankful for having gainful employment has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are getting paid appropriately for the job you do. Be thankful you have a job while...

    Response From Employer

Thanks, and yes, my salary was so low that other engineer friends I know were shocked and wondered why I was still there. The reason I was still here was I was waiting on passing my PE exam and when I took the job my wife and I were expecting and I needed something quick. It is so true that...

    Response From Employer

Haven't told them yet. I don't start till Nov 1st (gave me enough time to get my affairs in order and relocate). I know many people say to give 2 weeks notice but what are your thoughts? They layed off 15 people a few months back and they did it by locking them out of the computers and...

    Response From Employer

Been a while since my last post but here is the news. Sent out about 60+ resumes in mid June. Have had 4 interviews and 2 offer already. I accepted one and the pay in nearly THREE TIMES my current salary even with the 10% raise (which was a slap in the face considering the value of the work I...

10% raise and a "if you get offered better somewhere else we'll see if we can match it." The last part was took all I could to not quit right there.

You are so right on. The thing is one of the owners told me not too long ago that he was worried I would leave because I do a very niche job that would be very hard to replace. Funny how greed of the owners actually costs them more than just paying a guy what he deserves. Btw, we hired a new...

    Response From Employer

I'm hearing a 10% raise but hasn't been confirmed. That would be pretty good except for the fact that I'm about 20% underpaid as is relative to where I should be even without the "PE". Supervisor agreed that the only way I'll get payed what I'm worth is to change places of employment. Funny...

    Response From Employer

Still waiting for decision, in the meantime I have applied to over 60 jobs (and that was being picky). Turns out that if you're willing to relocate there are fair amount of jobs out there (geotechnical). Though who knows how many are applying.

Post your PE failure diagnostic report!

It has over 1000 questions and the timed exams helped prepare for the pace of the test. I did it online and got the ppi flash cards for iPhone (these were good but way more difficult than the test).

Post your PE failure diagnostic report!

I passed on second attempt. First try I studied about 20 hours, tabbed, reviewed and basically just prepared for it. Failed with a 68 factored score (not based on diagnostic but reported). Second try I worked over 1000 problems from various sources, spent about 130-150 hours. PPI exam cafe...
