I can't guarantee for every single delayed letter that the DB doesn't reflect the truth, but until you know for sure don't lose hope!

Do not buy any more books. Yes what people said is true just follow Hiner. The important thing is to change the way you are reviewing than reviewing more books.

I can say with my experience Hiner is more than enough for seismic. Survey I reviewed Shahin and Reza. For both seismic and survey try to do as many problems as you can.

Put your pen on paper and solve the problems just do not review and think you can solve in the exam. Thanks.

Got results yesterday, passed at first try (Santa Rosa, Sonoma).

Seismic: I totally agreed with Silvamela that Hiner book with the two codes are good enough for Seismic. (I graduated from foreign university, never took any seismic courses). Attending the Hiner's review class might help if you not a good self-leaner. Do all the questions twice or three times and measure your time. I was able to do well as much as 45/50 questions; missed 2 and guessed the other 3.

Survey: I only reviewed Shahin and Reza and some sections in CERM. I was able to complete all the questions in the exam and double checked haft of them. More books might not help, more practice do.

i couldn't understand 2 questions at all especially the pipe gradient problem?

suggest me something friend about survey..thats the only thing i have to clear and this will be my 4 th attempt on it..

i have cleared civil 8hr and seismic in my first attempt..

I'm in the same boat and need to pass Survey in October, but I sure as hell don't want to take it 3-4 times. I took Hiner's seminar for seismic and did not have the time to take Reza's. Now I have time to take Reza's which I have been told is very helpful. But I think you have to have speed,so you can double check. I felt I got most of the answers, but I must of made a lot of mistakes.

Hi all. The database was updated Monday, July 19. There is no trickle down effect. The most common cause for the lack of a result letter is the address in the Board's database is not correct. Also, the take-home exam needs to be completed before the license lookup (database) is updated.

Anybody out there who passed but his/her name not on the Database yet?I am in panic mode right now. I am yet to receive my letter and from the looks of it, its going to be in a thick envelope.

Man, I'm with you. I let out a loud distressed yell (= crying like a baby! heheh) this morning when I checked the database, and I saw that a bunch of people I took it with were listed as passing, but my name was not showing up. If they passed, surely I should've passed too! Surely I demonstrated that I'm at least 'minimally compentant'. I felt pretty good about the exam.

As of yesterday, I haven't recieved my letter... Maybe it'll come today.

My last hope is that not all letters were sent out friday; that some letters were sent out Monday; and that, as the PELS website indicates, the database isn't updated until the passing letter is sent out..

The PELS website does say "EXPECTED schedule for mailing of letters 7/16/2010"; and word last week from PELS was that they'd be sent sometime this week... so maybe (hopefully) they are being sent in batches? ....

sigh, seems like wishful thinking, but it's all i have left to go on...

All results were picked up by the post office on Friday, 16th at about 4:30 pm; about 16 buckets of letters from Sacramento, CA. Don't know what happens after then, but then, I have several pair of solo socks I can't explain either. I'm guessing that addresses might be changed but haven't been changed in our database.

Yes, I do have speed through practice. It usually take me less than 2 minutes to solve each practice problem, and I was able too keep same speed during the exam. I really used only two books during preparartion and in exam; it helps me save time switching between books. I think getting pretty familiar with the reference materials will help a lot.

Excellent example of why to be persistent in testing AND in demanding answers from the Board. YOU PASSED both Seismic and Survey. Read this again. YOU PASSED. No idea why its not in the mail, staff is sending you the letter again to the (same address).

We did discover that you passed the take home for Electrical in 2007, and OUR records were not updated to this administration; so it looked like you had not taken the take home. Record is being updated, you will be in license lookup...probably a day or two? with an effective date the same as everyone else that completed the test. The database assigne the number, so you will have to wait for that information.

Congratulations to another PE for joining the ranks of licensees in California.

For some of us, this is a most difficult accomplishment. I take nothing away from first time passers.

I have taken the exam a number of times (Have a PE in Electrical and now in Civil). Based on my experience, the following is provided that may help those pass that are struggling.

For the Civil Exam:

1. Take a good refresher course. I took two, one for theory and one for practice. Message me and I will give you details.

2. Taking a course will do you no good if you do not study the material. Study it hard.

3. Study with others. This really got me going after two failed attempts.

4. Get your hands on as many practice problems as possible. I especially think that studing the sample breath problems helps.

5. Organize your reference material at least two weeks prior to the exam. Use your orgaized refference material as you practice the exam problems.

6. The quantity of material taken into the exam is not important. Knowing the reference material you bring and having practiced using it is more important.

The same applies for the Seismic and Survey.

Hang in there SF-Elec. I am also waiting on my letter (I am in Virginia by the way). I started spreading the bad news of me failing after CAPELS reply. Then i see NOVEMBERS reply and now i don't know what to think. Should i be hopeful or just give up. I am so tired of all this. It does not help of course that i am still at work (10:18pm est) trying to make up for the short comings of our "Brilliant" architects. How many times do i have to explain it to them " 3ft clearance infront of the damn transformer".

I disagree with everyone saying Hiner is enough. The code books you have are fine, but I would get more practice problems like 345 solved seismic problems. The more practice problems you can do the better. I did Hiners problems a couple times, 345 solved seismic problems a couple times, and the practice exam a couple times and passed.

I didn't take review class for survey, and I don't think it is necessary. The material is not so much for self review. Save your time to do more practice and speed up your calc might help more.
