Who do you know who's posted sports numbers that far exceed their talent?

I was just thinking of a guy who is #11 all-time in NFL passing yards.

He also holds the Giants single-season record for passing yards.

But the consensus is that he was not that good.

I think the saying goes: there are lies, damn lies, and statistics...

Thanks to wikipedia, bar room arguments like this are no longer as fun as they once were. Kerry Collins was a pretty good QB, and hung around forever, so he compiled stats like that.

Media markets help fuel the fire. If Derek Jeter played for the KC Royals, he'd basically be Craig Biggio.

That's the baseball crazed northeast for you though.

Ehr...I have to say something about this. Craig Biggio does not have ...How many WS rings have Derek Jeter?...Well...That!!!

I rest my case.

Craig Biggio also didn't play for a team with a limitless payroll

I'll give Jeter his due, he is a good player who was very clutch.

How many rings would Jeter have as a Royal?

Here is another one - this guy hung around and hit 442 home runs (without roids) but sucked.

He also set the Mets record for home runs in a season.

This guy does not CURRENTLY hold the record.

Sorry, my What If crystal ball is foggy right now so I do not know. Do you?

One thing I know... attitudes are contagious.

By the time he made his second All Star game in 1999, KC would have traded him to New York, Boston, Chicago or LA.

But it doesn't take a crystal ball - it's standard MLB procedure.
