Anyone here an AWS Certified Welding Engineer? My company wants me to take the exam to be a Certified Welding Engineer but there isn't much information on the exam itself. I was wondering if anyone had taken the exam and can give some advice on what books to study. Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised the Passing Banner isn't up yet. For the Oct 2010 exam we had to painfully stare at a blank banner for almost 3 weeks before the first results came in. Of course no one realized it would be the longest wait ever for results.

You would think with all the calls that NCEES receives regarding the status of test results that they would at least have a way of providing daily status reports on the release of the results. All this anticipation and craziness would go away if they at least gave us a clue to what is taking so...

This board is awful quiet today. Almost as if all have given up hope on results. i guess that's a good thing because I hope NCEES realizes there has been approximately 40,000 unproductive engineers in the past week waiting on results. I guess I'll just have to stay in tune with my Blackberry...

Just occurred to me that I have notes written all over my MERM as little reminders to be careful of certain things like units, factors, exceptions, etc. And they are all written in pencil. Anyone know where they got this fatigue life formula from? It's different than the one I have in Shigley. I've come across 4-5 problems so far where none of the formulas are in MERM. This is starting to scare me.

Does anyone know where they came up with this formula to solve for cylinder thickness? It's more direct than the one I used from the MERM.

I just ordered a copy of this and was curious if those that did the problems felt like it helped them or just made them lose confidence. I've read conflicting opinions about this helping with the actual PE exam.

I spend hrs trying to figure out why my answer was different than the solution only to find out the author calculated the wrong value for the shear stress. Talk about frustrating...I have found a bunch of errors with this booklet.

The solution to problem 13 used Ta and Tb to find the thermal efficiency and goes on to say Tc and Td would be incorrect to use for efficiency. According to MERM eq 29.38 either one can be used for an Otto cycle. Anyone no why you shouldn't use Tc and Td?

I was planning on buying the NCEES 2008 Sample Exam and possibly the Machine systems 6MS book but after reading several negative comments on the 6MS I am having second thoughts. Would the ME Sample Exam be a better choice than the 6MS? Any recommendations?
