I have to say, George Washington Univ. is one of the bottom of the bunch when it comes to a practical education in civil engineering. I do not know how the undergrad civil engineering program ciricullum here is approved by ABET and how any of the graduating ce students here can acutally practice real world engineering. Students are labeled and ignored and it really is like a socialistic society or even tight fisted rule. Statistically, I would even predict that students from this program do not even have what it takes or are severely underprepared to pass the fundamentals of engineering exam. One rather, must count one his/herself to make it out alive without any support epecially if one does not even have any monetary background.

That's really not all that uncommon. Many colleges are like that. The school I went to was pretty good but started going downhill after I graduated. They wanted to become a "world class research facility" and forgot what put them on the map. They were really big into environmental and sustainability topics. In my last semester they hosted a sustainability lecture for engineers and professors from all over the globe. People came from all over to hear a lecture about sustainable design. It was nothing more than a slick sales pitch of what so and so professor has done on their research project. Not one word mentioned about sustainability! One guy from South Africa stood up and asked the speaker when were they going to discuss sustainability and she replied, "we're not here to discuss sustainable design." The guest said he wanted his $1,200 back and walked out. A few others walked out including myself at that point. They were more interested in blowing their own horn and raking in the dollars than anything else.
