Oilfield Engineer
Turns out being a Petroleum Engineer this year is about like registering in Kalifornia. Here is an update on the Petroleum Exam Results that I just received...

Needless to say, I am somewhat puzzeled? NCEES has never done something like this!
Something apparently happened to the Petroleum PE Exam? Maybe, since the last two previous year's first timer pass rates were 86% and 93% (apparently based on some "antiquated" cut-off basis); and that this year's first timer pass rate must have been real close to 100%; that they are having to recalculate their cut-off method?
Well, the results of all this will be very interesting?
It looks like you won't get your results until sometime in February?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Bing,
I was wondering if you have heard anything about the test this year. I got this forwarded to me from some of the PE's in the office. Have you heard what the problem might be or if this is standard operating procedure? Just curious and would like to know something sooner than later but it appears that it could be a late as the end of January before I know anything. Thanks for the input.

Dear Oklahoma PE’s,
NCEES will be conducting a Cut-Score Session on Tuesday and Wednesday (half day), 15 & 16 January 2008 in Houston, Texas . The Society of Petroleum Engineers is assisting with this effort. The purpose of the session is to determine the pass score for the recent October 2007 petroleum exam. More importantly, the session helps calibrate the PE exam for the next seven years.
We really need your help. The session was originally scheduled for December, but we had too many cancelations from participants. As a result, the release of test scores and awarding of PE licenses was delayed for 67 petroleum engineers. We desperately need your help. In this session, you will audit the 2007 exam, work the problems, critique the questions, and provide feedback to the NCEES facilitators. Scores are not important; your input is all that matters.
If you can volunteer for that day and a half, please contact me ASAP at this email address or 972-952-9452 . Participation in this session meets state board requirements for continuing professional development for license renewal. Additionally, I can provide a letter of invitation from the SPE President for your management’s approval process. The session will be conducted at the SPE Houston office. I can provide maps and suggested places to stay. Lunches are provided.
The fate of future Petroleum PE exams is centered on this session. I hope you can assist us. "
