Does anyone know that exact passing score for this exam. Does it depend on the state.
It seems like we've beat this horse to death in other threads, but the bottom line seems to be that no one (outside of NCEES and the states and they're not telling) knows the passing score.

It usually is the same regardless of what state, but it does vary from one discipline to another. Also, if you took a breadth and depth exam, like mechanical, there are 3 different passing scores for each of the depth portions plus the morning portion.

Two myths that need to be debunked.

1. Used to be that 60% raw score (48 out of 80) was passing everytime for every discipline. Now it varies to try and adjust for the level of difficulty. In other words, so someone who took the mechanical PE in October 2006, has the same chance of passing as someone who took the mechanical PE in April of 2004.

2. The 70 score that everyone says is passing is not percentage of raw score but a scaled score that is set to whatever the raw passing score is. That way if you take the exam 2 or 3 times and you got 69 all 3 times you know how close you were even if the raw passing scores for those three times were 49, 42, and 51 (for example). It's also mostly the infamous moot point since most states have gone to reporting only Pass or Fail.

Clear as mud, right? :dunno:

it was higher than 50 both this time around and last time for TRA I can tell yah that much :bad:

Thanks guys. I just thought that it is crazy that they will not release what the passing score is.

What's odd is how close everyone has come.

All the existing PE's that I've ever talked to about the test, say basically one of three things.

1. I passed first time

2. I had a 69 the first time then passed 2nd time

3. I had a 69 the first two times, then passed 3rd time.

I've never heard a fourth version yet. Any of you?

wow, you're transportation scores are great. Why don't you take that in the afternoon?

I just received my score, due to an address change, and can tell you that a 51 did not cut it for transpo. The part that stings is that I was shooting for a 51.

I must have missed by a little bit.
