Hey guys,

Quick question about ideal excitation of a synchronous machine. Normally a synchronous machine is ideally excited when Re(Ea) = |Vt| (the real component of the internal or induced voltage phasor equals the magnitude of the terminal voltage phasor).

What percentage tolerance (e.g. +/-1%, +/-3%, +/-5%) should Re(Ea) and |Vt| be within each other to still be considered ideally excited?

The reason I ask this was because in one practice problem, I had something like Re(Ea) = 7740 V and |Vt| = 7745 V. So they are not exactly equal, but the solution still considered this to be ideally excited since they are very close to each other.
