Hi,

I was looking over some plans for precast sills for a Big R portable stell bridge, and listed the required Ultimate Soil Bearing Pressure for the sill to be 9,300 psf, and the required Unfactored Bearing Capacity for the sill to be 5,900 psf.

My question is what is exactly meant by "Unfactored Soil Bearing Capacity"?

Thanks for any help,

That's an odd way of describing. Unfactored to me means without any safety of factor applied. In general,

Qall = Qult / FS

Or is it somehow referring to some of the bearing capacity factors used to determine Qult?
