The whole situation is really messed up. How can an educated society do something like this? Don't they know that seismic can't be predicted like the weather just yet?

 
But the suit does not charge that the scientists failed to predict earthquakes - that would be ridiculous, but that they failed to carry out their charge to adequately map seismic risk - as if, if they had done so, Italy would bring out their hordes of cash and take all the necessary remediation measures. Ever since Galileo, scientists have not been safe in Italy :)

What if they started prosecuting meteorologists for not adequately warning about the threat of tornados for a specific county? Or thunderstorms? Some one could get injured in a car wreck on the way home because they were driving in unsafe conditions when the weatherman told them that it would be sunny and clear...
