when solving for qult. the solution calls for the use of shape factor multipliers. but if you read the fine print in CERM it says that the multipliers are to be used with table 36.3. The problem tells you to use terzaghi meyerof which would be table 36.2. Also, the solution uses the figures from table 36.2. Is this a misprint in the CERM & I am supposed to use shape factors with both tables?

Thanks for any input.

 
^^^ In terms of practical application - there are different reason why you would either use the orginally derived Terzaghi factors or use the modified Myerhoff factors.

If you see a problem that requires use of these factors on the P.E. exam, those factors (or at least information on how to derive those factors) will be provided as parameters. You aren't going to be expected to choose between what set of factors to use.
