Would you like to be integral in producing the safety case for Astute class submarine? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Product Safety) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer (Product Safety), you will be involved in the production of safety case documentation to be compiled in accordance with the SMS (Safety Management System).
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Product Safety) will involve:
You will be a credible source for safety engineering and technical expertise, exemplary professional conduct in approach to task as the face of BAE Systems to the customer on the Astute class submarine. You will have the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts in a manner that can be understood by non-specialists and in particular the customer community.

As a Principal Engineer (Product Safety), you will be involved in the production of safety case documentation to be compiled in accordance with the SMS (Safety Management System).
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Product Safety) will involve:
- Being responsible for ensuring that design changes are incorporated into the programme for production of the safety cases at an individual systems or equipment level in accordance to deliverables set by the customer
- Maintaining and up keeping of the Astute class hazard log
- Leading or undertaking hazard identification, safety analysis and safety assessments
- Managing the Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with the Safety and Environmental Management Plan (SEMP), including reporting and development of product safety processes/interfaces and other management arrangements
- Undertaking safety reviews, and audit as directed and demonstrating compliance with the SEMP which includes relevant standards and legislation
- Authoring, updating and approving safety case documentation
- Representing the Astute Safety Team as required at relevant safety committees and meetings
- Degree (Honours) or equivalent experience in a STEM related discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)
- Demonstrable experience Safety Management Systems (SMS) – safety case
- HAZID (Hazard Identification) analysis experience - process knowledge
- Chartered Engineer - CEng or working towards
- Demonstrable experience working to MoD Safety Case methodology and standards e.g. Def-Stans, JSP 430
- Knowledge/experience in Submarine systems, design and operation
