Hi All,

Can anyone explain why I didn't pass the FE exam with the scores below? I was told and I read multiple places that 120/240 will pass. WHen I do the math I figure I got 123/240.

Now I know I have room to improve but if you look at the scores the low ones all are mechanical type questions. I am electrical and I do not have a clue on Mechanical. I even took theTestmasters review and I still don't comprehend the stuff. ANy ideas how I can review to pass those sections?

Morning:

Math – 63 - 12/18

Probability – 62 - 5/8

Chemistry – 82 - 9/11

Computers – 50 - 4/8

Ethic -88 - 7/8

Economics – 90 - 9/10

Static - 50 - 6/12

Dynamics – 0 -

Strength of material – 12 - 1/8

Material properties – 50 - 4/8

Fluids – 50 - 4/8

Electricity – 64 - 7/10

Thermo. – 62 - 5/8

Afternoon:

Math – 50 - 3/6

Probability – 80 - 4/5

Biology – 33 - 1/3

Economics -17 - 1/6

Mechanics – 38 - 3/8

Materials – 43 - 3/7

Fluids – 0

Electricity – 86 - 6/7

Thermo. - 44 - 4/9

Thanks.

Two questions for you.

1. The "120 out of 240 is passing"? Did you see that on any ncees website or where? People that say they know what the passing score is are just guessing. I don't see how they can know. It changes every time.

2. Why did you take the general PM instead of electrical? on the ncees website it says the passing rate for the electricalpm is 73% and that the electrical people taking the general pm is only 62%. It seems to me if you have an electrical degree you'd take the electrical pm.

My $.02. Good luck!

This is from testmasters.

"The passing score hovers around the 50% mark. It could be as low as 48% or as high as 52%, which would be 125 points at the most. The states do have the flexibility of changing the cutoff, although most states don’t."

I took the general because I have been out of school for 10+ years and I do not work in electronics. Most of the electical test is based on it from all the books I seen. Plus I took the testmasters course which sticks to the general.

Bottom line is I need to improve only in the mechanical. A few points makes it a pass......

Testmasters is not an authority and this statement comes from the "old times", probably when the EIT test was an open book test. So the reliability is questionable, the passing score is different for each test.

Even if you were to take 120/240, and then you are calculating your score from the %'s given, you are "assuming" that all the questions on the test were used to determine the final score which may not be true. Bottom line, it is not only impossbile to guess the passing score but it is also very difficult to point your exact score just from the %'s.

Good luck for the next time.
