Principal Engineer (Electrical Assurance)

As a Principal Engineer (Electrical Assurance), you will be providing the Chief Engineer (Assurance and Safety) with technical assurance advice relevant to the electrical engineering associated equipment, procedures, transversals and standards that have an impact on electrical systems and equipment operation, performance and safety; including Naval Reactor Plant (NRP), Propulsion and Platform systems.
This role will provide you with a real opportunity to gain a broad overview of a complex system.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Electrical Assurance) will involve:
Reviewing plans for surveillance and audit for all aspects of the submarine electrical activities and systems including through life capability and support
Working closely with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Engineering, Projects and MoD in delivering assurance against design intent for build and commissioning phases of submarine production
Applying the Quality and Health, Safety & Environmental Management (HS&E) System documentation including process instructions, workmanship standards and risk assessments applicable to the scope of work, and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
Compiling assurance evidence through review, surveillance and audit of Electrical Systems design, build, commissioning, and certification process, plans, activities and outputs, ensuring required levels of compliance, safety, performance and security
Conducting assurance of sub-contractors, supplier design, build activities and outputs as required by the technical assurance programme
Identifying and monitoring electrical engineering issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages that compromise or modify design intent, ensuring appropriate ownership and management to a satisfactory conclusion
Providing assurance evidence supporting the arrangements for safe management of electrical systems and components
Reviewing project surveillance evidence in support of qualifications, legislative requirements and safety justifications and provide specialist support for associated activities
Your skills and qualifications:
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of safety and engineering life cycles applied to maritime platforms within comparable safety critical industries
Electrical knowledge of maritime systems in either control and instrumentation or distribution
Experience of Health and Safety Management Systems
Demonstrable experience in technical briefings
Experience overseeing the integration of systems into complex platform domains
