I should...but I'm scared the starlings will get there before the crows....and there will be LOTS of them. Although, I read somewhere that starlings have a difficult time eating peanuts in the shell because they have softer bills or something, so I should try it. I have several bird feeders up (I'm kind of obsessed), and I have them all so either the starlings can't eat from the feeder, OR the feeders they can eat from I only put safflower seed in them because the starlings don't eat that. It is very disappointing because I want to do a big platform tray feeder and put lots of good things like live mealworms and nuts and fruits out to attract more cooler birds....but those GD starlings take over.Spam. Put a bowl of peanuts outside of your window.
I hear you there. The wife and I enjoy our backyard bird haven. We have 6 separate seed stations, but get bombarded by red-wing blackbirds all the time. ...And that's when the hawk comes. It usually harvests a junco or two every month. Between the RWBs and the hawk, we still have quite the spread though.....but those GD starlings take over.
