we are getting hit pretty hard in Colorado. at first it was polymer AC, now it is pretty much anything black. I've got interstate work that is getting done, but the forcast for secondary roads is continued potholes.

how are other states fairing?

I'm not sure about across our state, but my district is about to be hit. In fact, our chief construction engineer has sent out a memo on things that we can allow in lieu of the asphaltic binder. Many of our contractor's had enough stroke with their suppliers that all of the ongoing jobs have yet to be hit by this and are finishing up. However, we're seeing that upcoming bid prices a jumping like crazy!

We had two contractors bid on a 84 mile chipseal projects. The difference in price was $300,000. The only difference in the bids was due to the CRS-2P Emulsion. One contractor bid to do it this year and already had the emulsion locked in. The other was going to do it next year and the price jumped that much.

It seems that if the contractors don't already have the binder purchased, they won't get it until after the first of the year(at least the story I'm hearing).

We're starting to do some experimental substitutes for asphalt, such as polycon.

Our county must have come into money then...they are going around chip sealing asphalt country roads that were in very good condition...just minor, and I seriously mean minor, potholes every now and again.

we use a asphalt cement index with our contractors and were getting hit hard on our resurfacing contracts, but after september people may owe us a little money back..
