Some people wait to update their LinkedIn profile until the PE number is issued from the state. I had to take a course in order to submit permit documents and they would not let me sign up for the course until I had my PE number. I emailed the state board and the response was, "you're not a professional engineer until you have your PE number." So I had to wait another three weeks for the number.
