Hello, everyone. I received my NCESS Education Verification Report. My Math/Science and Engineering requirements are fulfilled, but for General Education, it says 2 hours are missing. I have yet to apply for the FE examination for CIVIL to the NEW YORK Board. I haven't sent the Form 1 to the NYSED. I don't know what to do next. What do you think I should do next? Thank you all in advance.

Just saw that - hope it is not too late.

I had the same issue with IL PE (mine was more like 5 hours of GE deficiency) and I decided to take a couple of CLEP exams to cover that. I would advise contacting NCEES and asking them how to complete these deficiencies. I did that and they shared with me a list of CLEP exams that can be considered as GE.

For me, the two easiest CLEP exams were i) College Composition Modular, and ii) College Composition. I passed both from first time. Since you have only 2 hours, I think you will need to pass one of them.

Good luck and I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any follow-up questions you may have.

Hello, thank you very much for your reply. I have applied for FE approval for my deficiency since, in many forums, they say that some state boards might not care about a few hours of general education deficiency. I asked NYSED, but they didn't provide an implicit answer; instead, they sent me a PDF with the eligibility criteria for FE exam approval in NEW YORK. It has been about 2 months, and I am still waiting for the New York board's approval.

However, I recently registered for the CLEP exam, The Principle of Management, which my NCEES evaluator confirmed. I plan to take it next week, reevaluate the NCEES Education Credential, and send it to the New York board. Do you think the NY board (NYSED) approves FE with 2 hours of deficiency?

You are on the right track - just need a little bit of patience as it seems like everyone it complaining how NYSED has a big back-log and their application review can take some time.

I initially took the German language CLEP exam (since I minored in German when doing undergrad abroad) but did not pass it. Thus, I chose the above two exams as they were a piece of cake for English speakers (English is not even my mother-tongue!). My main goal back then was getting the NCEES education re-evaluation having "COMPARABILITY SUMMARY" stating "Outcome: Equivalent".

I cannot answer your question about NYSED authorizing/approving FE exam with 2-hr deficiency (I hope they do!). My only experience with NYSED was when I applied for PE and that was after getting IL PE (in other words, I already cleared all the education deficiencies). The application review was lengthy and they asked me to clarify a couple points related to experience documentation but eventually they issued my license (I think I sent them the application end of March and got the PE license in Oct or Nov). My understanding is that NYSED does a separate education evaluation process, and they may not go to the next step of application evaluation if there is deficiency in education.

Overall, I think you should not have a problem as you are getting CLEP exam done soon. Maybe when sharing the updated results with NYSED, you can include the communication with NCEES indicating their approval to consider CLEP exam you took as GE course.

Good luck!

I initially thought of doing the educational credential verification from NYSED but later stuck with NCEES as I thought NCEES education credential verification could be applied for any US state. As you stated, I am also focusing on getting the NCEES education re-evaluation having "COMPARABILITY SUMMARY" stating "Outcome: Equivalent". I hope to do that as soon as possible to resend my EDUCATION VERIFICATION result to NYSED and get the approval for FE.

Thank you for your time and all the valuable suggestions!

I got the attached file from NCEES in 2019. The minimum pass grades is provided in the "Required Score" column.
If I were you, I would contact NCEES again in case they have an updated list of CLEP courses or other info. You can contact them either through the chat box during their working hours or emailing them at [email protected]
Hope that helps!
