I'm looking at the solutions, and it says that absolute value (Ia + Ib) = (-In)

I get that.

However, why did they put the impedances in the numerator and the voltages in the denominator??? Isn't I = V / Z ??????

Well you are correct I =V/Z

But in the problem the VA is in the numerator.

And I = VA/V

 
Ooooooh. When I read the problem I don't know why my brain automatically read that the 200 + j100 was ohms.....I guess I'm so used to seeing it that way.
