the last month or so my kids have been aggressively playing Monopoly, great game for them to learn some money sense, but I would have thought they would have been over it by now, they literally will turn down watching tv to play some monopoly, generally fights break out when someone accuses the banker of cheating, etc, ... they are taking it to a whole new level of competitiveness, that I have actually had to threaten to "take away the game" ( a board game wtf?) I actually heard myself over the weekend telling them to put the board game up and go play some video games :screwloose:

so I was thinking about getting them RISK for christmas (for those that remember that game) I wonder if that would be just a little over the top for them at this point?

The RISK Seinfeld episode was a great episode....

.... other than that, I really have nothing to add

I agree. Risk was cool. Just beware of major fights breaking out, and having to play 'UN Peacekeeper' at your house!

We have been trying to limit there TV time and video game time, but I think in the end if you take one source of entertainment away from kids they can find anything to do that makes them happy and cause their parents iritation at the same time...

if your kids are getting into fights over monopoly they will never make it through a game of risk. That is the only board game growing up that we were never able to finish. Someone would always get upset and knock all the pieces off the board.

Just remember that you can be the 'evil dictator' as well.

A buddy and I used to play Axis and Allies (WWII version of risk) in college and never finished a game.

I say let 'em at it and see.

If they fight over Monopoly then Risk is going to be a guaranteed fist fight. Thats not to say you shouldnt get it for them, but you may also want to pick up some boxing gloves so they dont hurt each other.

Im with Worley on this, I would say the vast majority of Risk games Ive been in have ended with shouting matches and flipped over boards.

Make 'em wear protective headgear, and provide Nerf swords while playing.

I say just teach them to grift at monopoly first, e.g. making deals and trades outside the confines of the traditional rule set. Before long, Little Johnny just swindled Susie out of all her property, money, Barbie dream house, and she has to clean his room for a year.

We don't play any board games at my house because my wife and I fight like cats and dogs when we play. Our only fights have stemmed from games, the last one was over the fact I used some engineering term in scrabble she didn't know and blocked a space she wanted to use...

If your kids like games, Risk shouldnt be a bad game ,but I do agree with the others concerning the fighting.

never hurts to try. Mr snick and I play on occassion, but he plays war strategy games on the coputer so I am not much of an opponent. hence the we play risk not very often. My dads version of the game used roman numeral place pieces...our version has soldiers horses and canons.

I think if you atart yuong enough they will have fun.

Drunk already, snick? Isn't it a little early to hit the eggnog? :p

there is something strange with the home computer and this forum. It is impossible to just cursor over to the area you want to correct. I would have had to delete most of the post because I didn't see the typos until after. so live with it.

I'm LMAO over how serious your kids are taking Monopoly. I agree with the advice to instruct them a bit in the art of negotiation. Other than that, the nerf swords thing doesn't sound bad.

I'd go ahead and give them Risk, but that's because I find that kind of sibling conflict somewhat amusing, and it beats the hell out of them just playing video games.
