Yep from Ms Karen Handel the Georgia Secretary of State and this is the only line I needed to read.... "It was determined that you have gained 45 months of acceptable engineering experience"

Looks like I get to reapply and take the test come April. Good luck to everyone taking it in October... me I'm going to get a drink!

DUUUUDE. WTF. You have been at the same job since day 1. I know that they often throw out applications if you move around too much. That is crap my man.

If it makes you feel better, a friend of mine was sentenced to taking the STR1 (hard civil structural test) based solely on his course work.

(side note...want to do a BBQ at my place this weekend or next? drop me an e-mail)

Actually, RG is (once again) incorrect. It IS the end of the world. If you read the fine print you will notice the statement that it is, in fact, the end of the world.

Just take this as a sign that you needed that January review class.

Am i missing something here? Isn't this a good thing...saying that the board accepts your experience and is approving the test aplpication?

Well, if 4 years = 48 months, then he came up 3 months short.

Strickland - bummer dude, but, like GT said, gives you a little more time to prep...

Good Luck, I'm there with you.

I see said the blind man.

How long has Strickland worked for the same company?

I will answer for him as he is one of those who actually completes work tasks while at work.

He has been there at least 4 years. I imagine the experience issue has to do with the way he wrote up some experience or something.

I guy I work with got rejected for insufficient time because he'd have his 48 months in the month before the exam. He decided just to wait for the next cycle.

I've worked for the same company since I got out of school in May '03. So I was just at my 4 year mark when I sent in my application, as it was due June 1st.

GA seems to be real picky about experience from what I hear, my first time I got denied over a months difference. I dont konw how other states do but GA wont take any experience after whats on the form, they wont accept the 2 months in between when you submit the application and the exam date

pretty stupid if you ask me

I pretty much got the same thing when I applied. I ended up calling and talking to an "application specialist" so I could understand their math. And she told me that they discount your first 3-6 months at a job beacuse "you are probably not really do any engineering work." She also said that they would be more likely to count from day 1 of the job if you had intern type experience and/or maybe if your dad was an engineer. She also told me I was very luck they were only discounting me 3 months and not more. I thought my head was going to explode after hearing all that. So yes, that is why everyone ends up applying twice. Makes me wonder why they don't ask how much vacation and sick time you took and start counting it down to the day.

I applied in NJ to take the PE October 06 exam. I was 3 months shy at the time of application. I also thought they would assume that by the time you take the test you would have more experience but no! Experience counts up until the time of application. I took it in April 07 and passed. Now obviously I have almost 5 yrs. experience since it was a year ago when I got denied for the Oct 06, and guess what? NJ has not issued yet a license card. From start to end, it takes over 5 years to get this thing thru and done!

BTW, NJ did not go into the "first 3 months do not count thing" they actually gave me credit for the time between my application was sent and when they reviewed it.

Just study for April, pass it and GIT-R-DONE!

wow - Michigan must not be as strict then... I got my 4 years jsut about exactly when i got the exam... maybe this is because evenm if you pass the exam, you still dont have your PE here, and you have to apply for it, and give more detailed information, and references and stuff, and by that time it was a good 3 or 4 months more than 4 years...

sucks though - can you appeal the decision?

I received the same letter from Ms. Handel last week. After talking with the board, the re-app seems fairly simple. I am think of waiting until right before December 1 to send in the supplmental application...hopefully that will avoid the board discounting any time and experience.

I got the opposite, I was half expecting to have my application denied (and secretly hoping it would be so I could relax and enjoy the upcoming football season without the prospect of studying hanging over my head). Got my letter last week telling me I was approved to take the test. I had started studying in anticipation of being approved, but now I guess I really need to kick it into gear. :(
