Hello from East Texas! I graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2006 with a BS in Marine Engineering Systems and took (and passed) the FE in 2010. I'm planning to take the PE exam (Mechanical) this year or next and a friend recommended this forum to me. Looking forward to both learning and sharing with you all!

Welcome! I am also from East Texas. Houston to be (sort of) exact. I am also planning on taking the Mechanical but waiting until next year to give me time to apply to the Board and then study. Marine engineering is one you don't hear every day. You know that they offer a Marine PE, right?

Thanks for the welcome, fellas. I'm from Baytown originally, Golden Eagle. I'm up just north of Tyler now. I know that they offer a naval arch and marine engineering license, but I prefer to go with mechanical for the following reasons:

1. availability of prep material

2. mechanical is relevant to a broader range of opportunities

3. most of my experience in essentially mechanical engineering, just on ships instead of shore. I don't have a great deal of work experience that is related to the naval architecture side of my industry
