It's a CD mounted in between the output poles of a very high voltage transformer. I think the 9v battery is powering a motor that is spinning the CD.
The data layer on a CD is metallic. The HV transformer is arcing and consuming that layer because it's the path of least resistance.Yes, but what is it doing to the cd? Is it erasing the data layer?
