Hi, everyone.

I try to keep an eye on the forum here, but don't visit as often as I used to. If you have a Florida-related question, please tag me in it so that I get a notification. I'll try to respond as soon as I can. :)

Does it mater if I pass my PE exam at the first time or at the 100th time? will my license application get rejected because of too many attempts?

It used to be that after three PE fails, the Board required you to take additional college credit. But since 2019, no, you can take it as many times in Florida as you need to pass it. We only look at whether you pass or not, not the number of times. (This is only in Florida; I can't say how other states look at this.)

Hopefully, you'll pass it right away.

But, if you've failed it twice, you may consider whether you are taking the PE exam in the right discipline. For instance, you may have graduated with a civil engineering degree, but have been working in a job in which you do mechanical engineering. Rather than taking the civil exam, maybe you should be taking the mechanical exam. Remember that the PE exam is based on experience. Just keep that in mind.

Thank you so much!

Yes, the Board accepts work experience while working abroad. Reach out to either Angie or Lisa (based on the first letter of your last name) for details. They have a better understanding of the licensure process and NCEES Records than I do. Their extensions and emails are at the link: https://fbpe.org/contact/#licensure

hi, when does usually board approves the application? does it happen the same day as FBPE monthly board meeting? thanks in advance

There are two different avenues for approval of PE applications. The clear-cut applications (such as those with verified NCEES Records, MLE) can be approved by the executive director, which can occur at any time. Applications with questions about education, experience, or other issues must go to the Board. Those are voted on at the regular Board meetings. (The Board can also request that the applicant appear before the Board to explain matters, which could delay things.)

all the items in my application’s were approved like two weeks ago, just the “Board Approval” is still showing “work in progress.” I sent all my information through NCEES record. any idea when the application will be completed? thanks again

You'll have to reach out to your PE licensure analyst. I don't have access to the status info. Analysts are assigned by your last name: https://fbpe.org/contact/#licensure

If most of my experience is in design and limited field experience during construction do I still have a shot at the construction PE license

Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been out of town.

Florida doesn't license by discipline. As long as the experience was any sort of engineering and you have a licensed PE who can verify it, you should be good.

If you have specific questions, you should reach out to Lisa Metcalf, our PE licensure analyst, who can better assist you: [email protected].

Did the Florida board have any thoughts/concerns regarding the abnormally low pass rate for the most recent round of "Depth" exams and how long it took NCEES to grade the exam?

I don't have any details regarding the exam results. But I will pass along your concerns to our executive director.
