Has anyone run into environmental issues when designing an elevated storage tank overflow that is designed to flow onto a splash pad and then discharge to the ground? There seems to be little regulatory guidance out there.

By environmental issues, I mean dechlorination requirements, etc.

Thanks

Are you talking about an above grade open tank? I'm not clear on what kinda product you're talking about.

I would say you'd want to avoid the chlorinated overflow water from goin directly into a storm drain system. Let it sheet flow overland to allow the chlorine to dissipate.

That's what we do when we chlorinate a water line at least.

Yeah - I would prefer some overland travel or infiltration of the chlorinated water. That gives plenty of opportunities for the chlorine to react.

We don't have any guidelines out here, but that's no surprise. A similar situation would be draining a swimming pool. If it's anywhere near the beach (coral reefs) then we make sure the pool owner, usually a big hotel, drains to the sewer. If it's more than say 150 feet from the beach, then land disposal is OK, provided they don't cause any erosion. So if it's something that will overflow on a routine basis, I would recommend underground infiltration, if the soils allow.
