Metcalf & Eddy is not helping me on this one...

Does anyone have any experience with salt water discharges to sewers? How much can an activated sludge process take before treatment is affected? Any good links?

This comes up all the time, and I always pass it off on our utility and EPA to answer, but I need to know now. I've got shrimp evangelists breathing down my neck...

(I'm looking now, and I will post whatever I find)

I don't have access to my texts at home, so I performed literature review (A nice feature of being a current grad student). I am sending you some peer-reviewed documents via e-mail.

Also, there appears to be a document or two in particular that I could not obtain by pdf that sounds like it would address your issue:

Effects of high sodium chloride concentrations on activated sludge treatment, Water Science and Technology, Volume 31, Issue 9, 1995, Pages 61-72, M.F. Hamoda and I.M.S. Al-Attar

Effect of salinity variations on the performance of activated sludge system, Biomed Environ Sci., 2005 Feb; 18(1): 5-8, Wang, JL, Zhan, XM, Feng, YC, Qian, Y.

If I find anything additional at work I will e-mail you.

Thank you JR! I really owe you one. I got sidetracked by a couple of very unpleasant meetings and was only able to get to this one:

Effects of Sodium Chloride on the Performance of a Sequencing Batch Reactor

J. Envir. Engrg., Volume 131, Issue 11, pp. 1557-1564 (November 2005)

How Y. Ng, Say L. Ong, and Wun J. Ng,

or, I should say, I was only able to read the abstract - got to pay to read the whole thing, and my office can't do that.
