Studied both books in addition to Cuomo's materials and passed on my first try without taking any classes. The Study Guide is really good for learning the surveying basics (I would say better than Cuomo's which seems to be written for someone with surveying experience). The Practice Exams are excellent for honing your problem solving speed; I took the practice exams until I was getting 90%-100% each time within 1 hour and I breezed through the actual test with enough time to recheck my problems. There is a fair amount of highlighting and writing in the Study Guide but the Practice exams are completely clean.
