Don't piss off the locals

This year seems to be big on the locals getting pissed with the contractors. Earlier this year at one of my coworkers sites, the contractor lost two pieces of equipment. One was a bucket excavator, the other a dozer I think. the excavator was driven into the lake, when they lifted it out the cab had been ripped off. The dozer had lots of damage. THe excavator was essentially brand new too....less than 1000 hours logged.

The contractor at one of my sites said they have been having stuff damaged or stolen coincidentally around the same times they let the union guys go. SOmeone has upgraded to stealling one of their Gators..not a big piece of equipment but still substantial.

In this area (Southern NJ) the Union guys show up at your site and bring an 8' tall inflatable Rat....then walk around in a circle around the rat chanting catchy slogans about your mom and other family members....I work for a Land Development Company which also does the site work and builds the homes and have heard some rather intersting stories about work in the past, but nothing too recent....I still love driving down the road seeing that hugh Rat in front of jobsites....

I've seen the big rat too. I remember seeing it in front of a Dunkin Dounts that was being renovated with 3 guys sitting in lawn chairs under a big umbrella. It looked like a beach party.

Which Land development/Builder do you work for. I though the unions left the land development work alone because the union rate is so low. Most union guys don't want to work on the residential work.

The big rat was out in Watchung/North Plainfield on Route 22 on Friday when I was on my way to a meeting at a job site.... to our UNION jobsite in Raritan!
