Job Title: Senior Construction Engineering Manager.
Location: Barrow in Furness, Cumbria.

 
We have an opportunity available for two Senior Construction Engineering Managers to join BAE Systems at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
 
The successful Senior Construction Engineering Managers will be an integral part of the £400m Barrow Shipyard redevelopment programme, a once-in-a-generation project to prepare the site for the new Successor Class nuclear submarines.
 
This is an 8 year project, involving a diverse range of organisations, supported by a framework of consultants and contractors, and you will be aligned to one of two areas – Off-site facilities or On-site infrastructure. You will report to the Facilities Chief Engineer on all engineering aspects of your project.
 
As a Senior Construction Engineering Manager your main responsibilities will involve:
 
Working with the Facilities Chief Engineer and Nuclear Governance Manager to support the Area Project Manager and Project Managers in the successful delivery of all engineering aspects of the project
 
Working through the project EMs to determine the Engineering Lifecycle Maturity Gates in accordance with the Engineering Strategy
 
Liaising with Nuclear Governance Manager to ensure that all requirements of nuclear safety are met ensuring smooth progress of the project through due process
 
Implementing the design configuration and ensuring, via controlled and authorised change, that the design configuration is declared and maintained
 
Developing design work scope and support the development of an agreed strategy and plan to deliver the engineering aspects of the project
 
Ensuring that design reviews, optioneering workshops, value engineering workshops held in accordance with the set out LCM strategy
 
Delivering integrated and robust engineering solutions, designs, specifications and instructions and documentation that meet the safety, legal, quality and technical requirements
 
Determining the presence of technical knowledge and capability gaps for the Project and devise approaches targeted at closing them
 
Ensuring that the Independent Design Review Chairperson is agreed by the Engineering Authority
 
Agreeing with the Chairperson the selection of Assessors having independence and subject matter expertise
 
Ensuring that any issues revealed by the Design Review that may affect other projects are formally and promptly identified to their Engineering Authority and participate in the LFE process
 
 
As a Senior Construction Engineering Manager your skills and qualifications must include:
 
Chartered engineer and member of an appropriate Engineering profession (or equivalent)
 
Experience with either delivery of multi-disciplinary infrastructure or delivery of engineering on a large (circa £30m) new industrial facilities through a Design and Build methodology
 
A track record in delivering the engineering of infrastructure or facilities
 
Excellent project cost and whole life cycle experience
 
As a Senior Construction Engineering Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
 
Nuclear experience
 
Experience working within a highly regulated environment
 
What we're looking for in you:

 
We are looking for you to be an experienced Senior Construction Engineering Managers, able to work closely with the Engineering Manager and the Area Engineering Manager to deliver results on their projects. You must be proactive, but understanding that the regulations are stringent and have to be followed. You will be able to speak with authority and be able to justify your decisions to a programme, project and engineering audience, and above all, work well in a multi-disciplined team environment.
