Can anyone recommend a good training resource for the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel (BPV) Code. I'm particularly interested in Section VIII and Section III. I recently took the ASME online course for Section VIII and was very disappointed. I've talked to a couple coworkers who have taken the ASME courses off-site and they didn't think they were much better "live." I thought maybe a third party would have a better training solution.

What is it you're looking to focus on? General understanding/requirements, design specific, etc? Casti has a bunch that are broken down to specific target areas, but I believe they're all in Canada. I don't know if you've ever been through any of the Casti guide books, but they're a pretty good reference.
I have not, but have perused some of the books (particularly Section IX), and they seemed to be decent in terms of breaking things down to a real-world understanding/commentary on the paragraphs. I deal with B31.1, ASME I, Sec. VIII, Sec. III, and NBIC quite a bit, but unfortunately had to learn my way around their requirements through experience and pestering the AI over the years.

Get your certification does it pay off. Certification in Boiler and Pressure allows someone what.

Some days I really miss being in the boiler room steaming to places unknown. After I got out of the service I wanted to continue working in the boiler industry and found that it's tough without a Mechanical Engineering degree and certifications. This book helped me advance in the service and introduced me to how things work in the civilian world. I was amazed at all the regs and certifications one has to go through to be a licensed operator. Maybe this will help steer you in the right direction?
