Application denied due to lack of experience?

To anyone whose application was denied after they reviewed your supplemental experience record: what was the reapplication process? Were you required to gain a set amount of time (e.g. min 1 year) of additional experience before reapplying? On a similar token, my neighbor failed the test 4...

Question about experience outside of core engineering discipline

I took/passed the exam in October, but opted to use the de-linked process (TX) by taking the test first, then worrying about the application later (now). I've been with the same employer since I started in 2010, but one of my positions wasn't directly related to my engineering discipline (I was...

Do NEC questions expect you to use the <100A 60C termination rating limitation from 110.14(C)(1)?

Just want to confirm: on the test, if we're given a question that has a circuit < 100A and given cable with 75 or 90 C rating, we're supposed to use the 60 C column in 310.15(B)16 for the cable ampacity, right?

    Pencil marks in reference material

I read on some website that any hand-written notes in our reference material needs to be in ink, not pencil, but I can't find that anywhere in the NCEES Examinee Guidelines. Do I have to go back through all several hundred pages of my notes and trace any hand-written comments in ink?

    Question about binding reference material

I've got lots of various materials which I've printed and don't want to stick inside of clunky binders. The Examinee Guide says that brads are an acceptable form of binding. Does that mean these? https://www.amazon.com/Officemate-Round-Fasteners-Plated-99817/dp/B003DYZR6M/ Similarly...

Please help me understand how to understand/calculate asymmetrical from symmetrical

All the papers and textbooks I've read show that the peak asymmetrical current (including DC offset component) is simply sqrt(2) times the RMS symmetrical fault current. However, when you look at breaker ratings, the given asymmetrical interrupting rating is never a simple multiplier difference...

How to read sequence diagrams of XFMRs, generators, etc.?

It's not clear to me how to interpret whether current will flow through (or in) a piece of equipment e.g. XFMR) given its sequence diagram. Specifically, zero sequence is confusing me, because my understanding is that it has to involve ground (is that accurate or a misnomer?). Refer to...

Equation for DC component of short circuit current

My SOPE notes, as well as the diagram in the Camara book (and on this site: http://myelectrical.com/notes/entryid/134/dc-component-of-asymmetrical-faults) show the equationas being (2)*sqrt(2)(I"_k) Is that really a 2 multiplier, or is it meant to indicate that it's a square root (and not 2 x...

When must the 30deg phase shift be accounted for in calculations?

I've found that sometimes the 30 degree XFMR phase shift is used, and sometimes it's seemingly irrelevant or disregarded. This is even the case when we aren't necessarily going through a transformer, but even when simply converting from a phase to a line voltage, for example -- this is...

Where can I buy Tom Henry's Keyword Index for ~$20?

Every online bookstore I've found sells the book for $16-18, but includes at least $10 for shipping. Sadly it's not on Amazon nor Half (eBay). Everyone says "best $20 you'll spend for the test" but I can't find any vendors selling it for $20 after tax/shipping.

Calculating reactive capacitance for Pi model of Medium-length T-line

The SoPE problem #288 shows that we calculate the discrete capacitive reactance for a Pi model by dividing by the Cap Reactance (given in Ohm * Mile) by half of the total line length (L/2), and that this is done for the caps shown at both ends (sending and receiving). I expected that the value...

Is the NCEES practice exam updated periodically?

Dumb question to which I likely already know the answer, but want to be sure. I borrowed a friend's NCEES practice exam. It looks like the one on their website. They don't update this annually/biannually or anything, do they? In which case, the one I've borrowed is the same one that everyone...

School of PE: Weekday vs weekend? Is the OnDemand component good?

I was originally considering doing the PPI course, but after reading lots of promoting comments for School of PE, and because they offer the OnDemand + Live course combo, I think I'll go with them. I would appreciate any insight regarding whether the weekday or weekend format is more...
