I know there has been a lot of buzz about the upcoming April 08 Seismic Principles exam being based on the 2007 CBC/2006 IBC--this is clearly stated on the California Board of Professiona Engineers' website. But I just got my "Examinee Instructions" (blue pages) along with my admissions notice...
Can anyone explain how they are calculating the resisting overturning moment in the provided solution (p166)? The distance from the toe to the centroid of the soil above the footing should be 8 feet, but they seem to be using 1 foot. This seems to defy logic.
