Never used it I've done the same thing...twice. And I figured out why the second time. When you click on a spool of Hatchbox PLA, and there are other suggested items on the Amazon page, most of the time, those suggestions are ABS. I think they do it intentionally to get rid of ABS since...

ABS is a pain in the ***. I've always had problems with it failing to stick to the print surface, and even when I forced it to stick with glue, the layers would separate. Anything that needs more strength or temperature resistance than PLA, I print in PETG these days.

    The 2019 Garden Thread

Not a garden, but I got a magnolia tree for my birthday last year (late November). I wasn't expecting much out of it this year since it's only been in the ground for ~6 months. I was mowing the other day and noticed it was losing a lot of leaves, so I was worried that I might have killed it...

At least there aren't any crazy old crazy people. They're the worst.

    Whatcha Playin?

I bought a VR headset, so I've been playing a lot of Superhot VR, Beat Saber, and Moonrider (which is like Beat Saber, but with better music).

    Random Topics 3.1

I live in a fairly suburban neighborhood, and I saw a fox cross the road in front of me on my way into work this morning.

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

My college had "Mechatronics" for the ME majors so that they didn't have to take "real" programming classes. They also learned Fortran. And they had CS's do most of their homework for them.

In terms of old tools on eBay, they're not that expensive... Linky.

    3D Printers

That is actually the first translucent PLA I've used on my Prusa. All of the resin that I bought from Matterhackers is translucent. I kinda abandoned my resin printer and haven't printed anything on it in several months. It really is messy and finicky. I actually experimented with acetone...

The translucent orange PLA (Hatchbox) I used on that dumpster fire was...a dumpster fire. I had more issues with it than any other filament I've ever used. It was brand new when I started printing...bag was properly sealed, and had a desiccant packet in it. The filament was not brittle at any...

    Flat Earthers

I just...don't...understand. What does NASA or the federal government stand to gain by lying about the earth being a sphere? From what I can tell, the flat-earthers started as an offshoot from the chem-trail conspiracy theorists. They were/are batshit, but at least I can understand their...

    ~~**-- The Weather Thread --**~~

Yeah, I'm hoping the weather guessers are over-predicting this storm like they under-predicted the one last Friday. That was a mess, mostly because nobody knew it was coming.

    Work from home question

Yeah, I've seen places that have flex time policies, but you must be "on call" between certain hours (say 10 am to 2 pm Eastern). My company's flex time is unusually good. As long as your work is getting done and you're answering emails/phone calls directed your way, you can come and go as...

    Work from home question

A friend of mine works for Humana, and his team is based in Kentucky. He moved to San Diego for his wife's job, and moved to fully remote for Humana. He was required to work/be available on Eastern time while in California. He loved it, though, because he could golf every afternoon since his...

    The Cooking Thread

I used to make a mean Indian curry, and I always made naan to go with it. That's the first time I found out that yogurt was used in some bread recipes. I cooked the naan on my pizza stone at about 500 degrees. It's no Tandoor, but the naan was fantastic.

    $ transfer apps

My golf buddies and my cat sitter all use Venmo, so I have pretty extensive experience with that. I don't remember what the account set-up was like, but I don't remember it being overly burdensome. Paying and transferring funds is trivially easy once your bank account is linked, and there are...
