Career Switch: Automotive -> MEP/Power (Electrical)

So my educational experience (graduated in '03) was primarily focuses around power electronics, transmission, and protective relaying but all of my post academic work has been in the automotive electronics and systems engineering realm (I'm still employed) but I am reaching a point where I would...

When did you get your License?

Washington just updated their webpage with license numbers. So now I have an active license, looks like its retroactive to the PE result date which is nice.

    New Engine Design: Doyle Rotary

Its very interesting. I bet it would crazy to watch. Basically an inside-out Le Rhône. To be honest though I don't see any advantages over a direct injected over-head cam diesel.

    Legal Question

I guess I've never met an HR department wasn't scared shitless of labor relations laws.

    Legal Question

Thats sort of the point of FMLA - that you can't be layed because you need to take a leave of absence to take care of a family medical issue. If they are doing manpower reduction and lay 10 people off and 1 was already on FMLA I would doubt there is a legal problem. Call the HR department and...

    BP Oil Leak Solution

Again this is going to turn into engineer bashing by the media and congress is going to push for more rules and regulations that don't do anything. It was bean counters, management, and politicians that have made this a disaster. I guess if they removed the exception and had something a little...

    BP Oil Leak Solution

Hey this administration is hell bent on getting cap-n-trade passed whatever the cost. Just look at all that tax revenue, man!

    BP Oil Leak Solution

That is why you use BOPs with top kill ports already plumbed in. The thing is there is a tree of cut-offs that would do the trick... if only they could get them to fire.

    Calculators

Well if you still have it on your desk at work... :) FE (2003) - TI 86 PE (2010) - TI 36x Solar I would have preferred the 36X IIB... but you can only get that from TI's website and I didn't buy my PE calculator until a week before the exam.

    April 2010 Passing Poll

Actually that can't be done. You don't get diagnostics for the pass so really there is only a moderate amount of information you can gleen from a population of the diagnostic reports from fails, but nothing from passes. - there is already a thread discussing diagnostic reports. So for example...

    Short interview

What is the work setting like? Cubicles and a workstation with a lab if needed. Typically with a CAD able workstation. Windows are optional (luckily my job today has them compared to my second job). What do you like about your job? I like seeing a design move from a my own idea through to...
