How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

    1. I don't even own Mark's for aforementioned reasons. I am glad I don't really need to buy it. 2. I have almost no familiarity with the ASHRAE series. I have only read the name while perusing the forums, but know nothing about it. I won't get it if it is truly not needed. 3. For Heat...

How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

How well can someone do with using JUST the MERM, hand made cheat sheets, and the printed Appendix/Index? I am simply too poor and uninterested in investing in a large library of books that I don't envision using even in my profession career (Google and borrowed references have practically...

    Chapter 25 Compressible Fluids

It sounds like the MERM is adequate enough for this particular topic. I will just try to work the MERM problems a couple more times through.

    Chapter 25 Compressible Fluids

Good day everyone, I just finished the problems in the MERM for this chapter, but really felt like it kicked my butt. I am especially weak with the T, T0, and T* concepts. I did Ok in the first part of the chapter, but the second part is really painful. Do you have any recommendations for...

How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

My intent is to work through all of the relevant MERM before even attempting the practice exam. In my head, I theorize that going through the MERM problems will get me 80% the way there in terms of sheer knowledge. The rest of the 20% will come from working the other references and developing...

How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

The Thirteenth Edition has problem in the book. I am aware that there is another book with additional problems that go with the book. My original question was regarding why people never seem to talk about the example problems in the MERM.

How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

Hello everyone! I plan on taking the April 2018 exam in Minnesota. I have noticed for nearly all of the recommendations that rarely anyone mentions the example problems found in the MERM. Are these example problems good practice for understanding theory or is it well accepted that they aren't...

Thermal and Fluids Systems Reference Manual for the Mechanical PE Exam (METS)

There is a new release from PPI2Pass titled "Thermal and Fluids Systems Reference Manual for the Mechanical PE Exam (METS)". Has anyone bought it yet? I am trying to determine if it is worth my time purchasing. I would imagine that it is a good supplement to the MERM, but isn't by any means a...

Don't be scared off by the studying

I am taking Thermal Fluids. I am also curious how the "new" 80 question depth format with affect the amount I will need to know. It is nice not needing to review statics/dynamics as much, but I imagine the intensity of the thermal fluids will be pretty rough. After I work through the book...

Don't be scared off by the studying

So, I know this is an exhausting question, but are these two books sufficient? It seems like there are two main camps of opinions: One camp believes in buying all of the bells and whistles (MERM, SMS, Index, Appendix, etc.) and other camp is very minimalistic (Pretty much just the MERM). It...

Don't be scared off by the studying

I am assuming it is this book I found on amazon:  Practice Problems for the Mechanical Engineering PE Exam, 13th Ed

Don't be scared off by the studying

This may be a really dumb question, but what is the difference between the problems found in the actual MERM and the MERM "companion problems"? Are those the same things or is there another book of problems?
