Collecting Codes based on April 2015

Something to consider also is that oftentimes new codes are drastically different from old codes.  There are certainly exceptions (ASCE 7-05 to 7-10 wind provisions for instance) but a lot of times the changes are minor (IE AISC steel construction manual 13th to 14th edition).  So if the purpose...

    How big is your certificate?

Funny thread. On topic though, Montana decided semi-recently to cheap out PE certificates.  We don't get a certificate as the board decided it was too expensive to print a cert for each PE.  We just get an email with our license number and a statement to print off the email for use as a wall...

How I Passed Civil PE - Transpo Depth

I've only taken the civil/structural, but I would imagine that all of the Civil PE exams are comparable in difficulty, at least that's what NCEES is trying to accomplish.  I hear people mention all the time that "THEIR" PE exam was harder than others, or others who took a specific civil pe...

Ya thats the one I mean, its just a few page pamphlet and is really basic, but I think its handy and helpful.

Which civil pe exam to take

"you're" not "your"... I wish I could edit.

Which civil pe exam to take

It shouldn't.  A civil PE is a civil PE.  Some states have roster desiginations where your stamp might reflect "Transportation Engineer" or "Geotechnical Engineer".  But roster desigations are meaningless in effect.  Because a Civil PE is a Civil PE and as far as I know, all of the roster...

    Recommended References (Building Tract)

O and I also brought the CERM and SERM from PPI.  I used the CERM once and never used the SERM for what it was worth.  And then I had some abbreviated class notes on topics and things like that. I also had the PPI Masonry Design Guide.  Its super basic, and I love it.  I used it both during the...

    Recommended References (Building Tract)

Ya the NCEES practice exam is very indicative of both content and problem difficulty.  I had the PPI 16hr practice exam as well and was worthwhile.  Its considerably more difficult than the actual NCEES exam but is a good tool for studying and a helpful barometer for figuring out where you are...

OPINION: 300 Hour CE PE Study Recommendation should be Revisited

I realize there will ultimately be a "guideline recommendation" of some set number of hours... I have no idea who decided 300 was the right number. That seems like a really steep number.

Agree with TME, all of them.

    SE: Vertical or Lateral First?

I should proof read before hitting submit.  I meant "I'm not sure you save time or stress by doing 1 at a time"...

    SE: Vertical or Lateral First?

I took both at once and passed both the first try.  I'm personally glad I did both at once.  While it required "some" more studying up front for the exams, I suspect I didn't do twice the amount of studying I would have done had I just taken one exam.   Realistically, while its great to tell...

    Structural Depth Reference Manual

I admittedly haven't, but I'd be curious in what you mean by better.  I think I answered probably 34 of the 40 AM questions on the PE Civil/Structural by pretending to be a machine, turning off my thinking hat, and just blindly finding the necessary sections and then equation in the CERM...

    Super Dumb Records Question

Thanks, ya I called and they said I was a "MLE".  When I print my certificate it doesn't show anything, just says I have an engineering record and am licensed by a jurisdiction.  Anyways, ya I hadn't put much thought into it, but you're probably right... I'm not sure what the MLSE actually does...

    Super Dumb Records Question

I have my PE (and have also passed both SE days).  I just applied for and was granted my NCEES record recently.  I meet the SE Model Law requirements and was going to apply for that... and just realized that as far as I know I was never granted the model law PE designation.  I know its really...

    April 2015 Pass Rates

For what its worth in Montana we had 4 SE-Vertical examinees (1-bridge and 3-building) and 3 SE-Lateral examinees (1-bridge, 2-building) in April 2015.  I know that's sort of off topic from the original post.  Only two of us (me taking the buildings, and another person taking the bridge) were...

    Why Civil - Structural?

I actually think both the PE Civil/Structural and both SE exams are pretty far off the mark.  That's not to say they are easy or hard... I just think they are a terrible representation of what a structural engineer does.  I like the idea of requiring an structural specific exam for licensure to...

    Structural Depth Reference Manual

For what its worth, I did have the Code Master ASD Masonry design pamphlet from PPI2Pass.  I still use the Code master thingy all the time (basically whenever I'm doing URM or Reinforced CMU design).  I haven't touched the CERM or SERM since I passed the PE and SE exams nor do I ever anticipate...

    SE Exam Cut Score Estimate

I think the NCEES practice exams are very indicative of the actual exam difficulty.  Which, really they should be, they are just past test questions from my understanding.  For studying for both the PE Civil/Structural and both SE days I also ordered a PPI practice exam.  These were way harder...

    Structural Depth Reference Manual

I had both the CERM and SERM for both my PE Civil/Structural and both days of the SE since I took them in successive test sessions (and knew or at least intended to do it this way).   The CERM was incredibly useful for the PE (seriously it might as well be a necessity), whereas I didn't use the...
